INTRODUCE YOUR CHILD TO THE LAND OF OZ WITH A #SENSORYBIN THAT WILL OCCUPY THEM FOR HOURS AND PROVIDE COUNTLESS OPPORTUNITIES FOR DRAMATIC PLAY 🌈
Everything in this bin is something you probably already have in your home or can pick up at the grocery store or Target on your next essentials run!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
*Rice or Noodles (we used a approx. 8 cups of rice for our bin)
*Food Coloring or liquid water colors
*1tbsp Water or Vinegar per cup of rice
*Paper towel or parchment paper to dry rice on
*Ziplock bag or tupperware container
*Cookie sheet, tray, or lid of bin
*Clear storage bin (ours was 30x7x22" but any bin, baking pan, or container will work)
*Oz Character Template (Included below)
*A printer
*Optional: Contact paper or laminator
Step 1: Make the Rainbow Rice
My grand plan was to make all 5 colors of rice with my nieces. Truth be told Lilly (20mo) made it through 1 color and Bri (3.5yrs) only made it through 2. That said, we were outside so there was lots to do and play. All of that to say, if you end up making some (or all) of the rice colors yourself, no one is judging!
Add a portion of your rice/noddles to a bag or tupperware container. The exact amount will vary depending on how much you have and how many colors you want to use! I let the girls use both a measuring cup and their hands!
Add 1tbsp of water or vinegar per cup of rice or noodles to the bag. I eyeballed it and poured the vinegar into a measuring cup so that Lilly could help pour without the fear of spilling!
Add a few drops of food coloring (the more food coloring the brighter the color. If color is pale... add more!)
Seal the bag or close the tupperware + SHAKE to disperse food coloring!!!!
Empty the rice/noodles onto a paper towel, parchment or tin foil and let dry! We left ours outside in the sun and it took about 30min to completely dry.
Repeat to make additional colors
Step 2: Create Your Oz Paper Dolls + Backdrops
Print.
Cut out Characters (or if you're working on scissor work, your child can cut them out)
*Optional: Laminate or seal with clear contact paper. You can also glue to cardboard to make them more sturdy!
Step 3: Assemble Your Bin
Check to make sure the rice/noodles have dried
Add to the bin!
Mix it up!
