JOIN OUR TEAM!

Stages Chicago is seeking musical theater performers and educators from a wide variety of backgrounds to join our growing team of teaching artists. We are looking for individuals who share our core values and are passionate about sharing the magic of musical theatre with children and families.

What is the role?

Part time Teaching Artist specializing in programming for children ages 0-3 years and their families. Initial schedule will include 3 classes per week plus opportunities for additional hours performing at birthday parties and special events.

Teaching Artists will utilize a scripted curriculum that they will be required to memorize each week in preparation for class. Each script includes dialogue and six songs from that week’s show. Stages will provide teaching artists with materials (lyrics, tracks, etc.) to help in the memorization process but preparation time is not compensated.

*Stages will be seeking Teaching Artists to work with older age groups in the near future. If you feel excited about this opportunity and aligned with our values but the early childhood role does not feel like a fit, please send an email to emily@stageschicago.com and let us know that you would like to be considered when those roles open up.

How to Apply:

To apply, please email emily@stageschicago.com

Please include in your email a brief statement about why you believe you are a good fit for this position. Welcome but not required:

  • Theatrical, Professional, or Teaching Resume

  • Links to performance videos or reels.

Auditions are taking place May 15 - June 3

Applicants chosen for an in-person audition/interview will be asked to prepare a short musical theater song and a short monologue. These should showcase your ability to tell a story and engage with children in a developmentally appropriate way. While you should think kid friendly, the material you choose doesn’t have to be “kid stuff “- we do Rent and Hamilton for babies.

What is Stages Chicago?

Stages Chicago is an arts education program founded in 2016 that is dedicated to bringing the highest quality, developmentally appropriate performing arts experiences to children and families. Our curriculum is developed by professional performers turned early childhood development professionals who have decades of experience onstage and in the classroom. Stages is proud to offer a variety of inclusive programming for all ages and abilities. From developmentally appropriate music classes for infants (that are also entertaining for adults) to after school programs that serve as a training ground for the next generation of performers, Stages has it all. In 2021, Stages Chicago transitioned to a non-for-profit organization in order to expand our reach and better support our mission of making quality performing arts education experiences accessible for all children and families. What are Stages' core values?

  • Children of all races, abilities and socio-economic statuses should have access to high quality arts education and arts experiences.

  • Representation and diversity matter. We want to celebrate and amplify diverse voices and stories that make up both the greater theatre community as well as the communities in which we operate. We want every child to see themselves in the stories we tell and feel a sense of belonging.

  • Arts experiences foster empathy in children which in turn builds more inclusive communities.

  • We believe in the magic of musical theatre and the ability of high quality arts experiences to inspire creativity, curiosity, and openness in children.

What do you need?

A passion for performing, a love of musical theater, and a desire to work with children and their families!

Ideal candidates are experienced musical theatre performers who have worked with and/or are comfortable interacting with infants, toddlers, young children, and their adults. Professional theatrical experience and knowledge of child development are not required.

What’s in it for you?

Stages has flexible scheduling. Our classes typically run 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday - Friday and in the mornings Saturday-Sunday, making this a perfect part time job for active performers in the Chicago Theatre community.

Stages is excited to offer the opportunity to grow with our company over the next few years as we expand our reach and develop more full-time positions within our organization.

Starting pay is $25/class and $45/party. Training (approx. 3-5hrs) and onsite rehearsals are also compensated.
